We Just Bought a Bank – Now What?

In this installment of the HORNE Banking Blog, we pose a scenario that is becoming more and more familiar to financial institutions as the U.S. economy continues to dig out from the Great Recession. That scenario is growth through acquisition. 

We just acquired a bank. Now what? 

First of all, congratulations for completing the transaction. Research, negotiations, due diligence, consulting, system conversions, contract hammering, personnel changes, almost deal-killers and purchase accounting are no small feat. I wish I could treat you to a glass of champagne to celebrate and tell you that all of your hard work is behind you. I wish we could sit and simply reminisce about those sleepless nights, and raise a toast to the synergies that will surely double your profit margins.
